Finding your Google Analytics tracking ID has always been straightforward – until Google launched Google Analytics 4. Now, more and more people are searching for ways to find their ID number so that they can integrate plugins and better track their website traffic.
Here, we walk you through the steps for finding your Google Analytics tracking ID on both Google Analytics 3 (GA3) and Google Analytics 4 (GA4)
Finding your Google Analytics tracking ID on GA3 is relatively simple. Here are the exact steps you’ll need to take:
Step 1: Navigate to your Google Analytics 3 dashboard, log in, and click on ‘Admin’.
Step 2: Under the ‘Property’ list, click on ‘<> Tracking Info’
Step 3: Then, click on ‘Tracking Code’.
Step 4: You can find your tracking ID number in the top left corner of your screen. It starts with ‘UA’ followed by 10 numbers.
With Google Analytics 4, the process is more or less the same, however, the identification number looks slightly different. Here’s how to find your GA4 tracking ID:
Step 1: Head over to your Google Analytics 4 dashboard and click on the cog on the bottom left of the page.
Step 2: Then, click on ‘Data Streams’.
Step 3: On the next page, choose the relevant data stream you would like to get an ID for.
Step 4: Your tracking ID, also known as a measurement ID, can be seen in the top right of your screen. It starts with ‘G’ followed by a combination of 10 numbers and letters.
As you can see, there are significant differences between Google Analytics 3 and Google Analytics 4. With Google stopping data collection via Universal Analytics next July 2022, it’s important that you come to terms with GA4 in order to ensure the success of your website and online offerings.
