How to get your Google Analytics ID using developer tools in Chrome or Firefox

Have you ever been in a situation where you need your Google Analytics (GA) ID but don’t have access to your Google Analytics account? For example, when installing a plugin on your WordPress site that requires a GA unique identifier?

Luckily, there is a simple way you can gain access to your Google Analytics ID without having to log into your GA account. We explain how in this article…

Accessing Your Google Analytics ID Using Developer Tools on Firefo

One of the easiest and quickest ways to find your Google Analytics ID on Firefox when you don’t have access to your GA account is to use developer tools. Don’t have any coding experience? Don’t worry, you don’t need any!

Finding your GA unique identifier on Firefox using developer tools is as simple as learning your A, B, Cs. Here are the steps you should take:

Step 1: Type in your website URL in Firefox and open the application menu by clicking on the button with the three horizontal lines in the top right corner of the page. Then, click on ‘More Tools’.

Step 2: Next, click on ‘Web Developer Tools’.

Step 3: When the web developer tools appear on the screen, click on ‘Network’. Then, use the search bar in the top left corner to type in ‘G-’ if you’re using Google Analytics 4 or ‘UA-’ for Google Analytics 3. One row along, in the File column, you will see your Google Analytics ID. Assuming you are using Google Analytics 4, your ID will start with a ‘G-’ followed by 10 characters (e.g. G-1ABC23DE45). If you are using Google Analytics 3, your ID will start with ‘UA-’ followed by 10 characters (e.g. UA-1ABC23DE45).

An alternative to steps 1 and 2 is to right click on your website, and select ‘Inspect (Q)’. This will open your web developer tools where you can complete step 3 outlined above.

Gaining access to your Google Analytics ID using Google Chrome is very similar to Firefox. The only difference is the interface. Here are the steps you should take:

Step 1: Open your website using Google Chrome and click on the button with the three dots to customize and control Google Chrome. Here, click on ‘More Tools’ followed by ‘Developer Tools’.

Step 2: Next, click on ‘Network’. Then, using the search bar in the top left corner, type in ‘G-’ if you’re using Google Analytics 4 or ‘UA-’ if you’re using Google Analytics 3. In the Name column to the left, you will be able to find your unique identifier code. As mentioned above, a GA4 ID starts with ‘G-’ and is followed by a combination of 10 letters and numbers. For example, G-1ABC23DE45. A GA3 ID starts with ‘UA-’ followed by 10 characters. For example, UA-1ABC23DE45.
